Macquarie Telecom Limited is a telecommunication company headquartered in Sydney, New South Wales. It provides cyber security, data, cloud computing, colocation, voice, and mobile services. The company is doing business and providing services primarily in Singapore and Australia. Macquarie Telecom  

This segment provides business telecommunication services, which include cloud, colocation, nbn, SD-WAN, and mobile services. Macquarie Telecom offers solutions regarding mobile management, managed mobility services, cloud services, internet-related services, and SIP issues.

Macquarie Cloud Services

This unit provides organizations with cloud-based solutions, including data center extension, private cloud, hybrid cloud, and related management tools. Macquarie cloud centers benefited from COVID-19, as people started using the cloud more after the pandemic.

Macquarie Government

It offers state and federal agencies services, including secure internet gateway (SIG), secure cloud, security, and colocation services to the government. It is the core part of the group, based around 250 government-cleared engineers. Its working is complex because the cyber security threats are constantly evolving, raising the hurdle bar continuously.

Macquarie Data Centers

The Macquarie Data Centers of the Macquarie Telecom Group provide services of securing and sorting considerable quantities of information with five centers covering all parts of Australia. They announced a plan to further expand the company in 2021 and build Intellicentre 3 Super.

  • They announced a deal with Apple Inc. in August 2019, which allowed Macquarie Group to resell devices manufactured by the tech giant.
  • The Australian Tax Office hired the group for Secure Internet Gateway (SIG) in 2019.
  • At the annual GloTel (Global Telecoms) awards in November 2020, Macquarie Cloud Services won the Managed Services Innovation of the Year.

Building Data Capacity

Macquarie Telecom predicts the public cloud market to double between 2019 -2023, with its stock up circa 160% since the start of 2020. MAQ has planned to invest as much as $129 million in the fiscal year 2022, building its data capacity up to 54mw, from the current capacity of 17mw, to lead the cloud computing sector of telecommunication in Australia. Australia’s total market size of cloud computing services is expected to hit $1.4billion by 2025.

Company’s Return

Macquarie Telecom Group has a return on capital employed (ROCE) of 4.5%, a bit low but much better than the telecom industry average of 3.4%. The group reported first-half revenue of $149.3million in FY22, 4% higher than the first half of FY21. Meanwhile, the 48% fall in net profit after tax reflected increased capital expenditure levels.

Macquarie Telecom’s share price has plunged this year. The company’s share price has clipped a 27% gain in the past 12 months despite the volatility.  The company bounced from a three-month low of $56.37 on 26 May in a relief rally that extended to 64.40 per share.
