The Million Dollar Vax is a campaign aimed at increasing vaccination rates in Australia.
A new lottery developed by a nonprofit group will give fully vaccinated Australians the chance to win a $1 million prize.
The initiative intends to increase national immunization rates by over 80%, a critical strategic target set out in the national plan.
What Is Million Dollar Vax, And How Does It Work?
The campaign was established by the “Million Dollar Vax Alliance” and is now being launched by Summer Foundation, with the goal of increasing vaccination rates for the entire community, protecting those most affected by the virus, including as our healthcare and elderly care personnel, small and large enterprises, and people in poor socio-economic situations is one of our top priorities.
Individuals living in places with low vaccination rates, such as regional areas, elderly Australians, and people with disabilities will be the most vulnerable in the coming months when Australia opens up.
Who Is The One Who Is Donating The Prizes?
The Million Dollar Vax campaign is not a government-funded incentive program; it was created by the Million Dollar Vax Alliance, a group of Australian philanthropists and corporations, including the Susan McKinnon Foundation, Jasper Foundation, and P&S Bassat Foundation, who banded together to offer a pool of prizes worth $4 million, including a million-dollar reward to promote increase the country’s vaccination rate above 80 percent.
Instead of highlighting their contribution, they wanted to emphasize “giving back to the community.”
The alliance promotes itself as a “collection of benefactors and corporations with the goal of rapidly and safely increasing Australian COVID-19 vaccination rates above 80 percent nationally.”
Governments and private incentives have been used in a number of nations to motivate residents to be immunized.
Craig Winkler of the Million Dollar Vax Alliance emphasized that the prize pool was supposed to operate as a “reward” but “Vaccination is a personal choice that should be undertaken in consultation with a physician”.
Why Is It Important To Get Vax?
KPMG estimates that each additional day of lockdown costs more than $370 million in Victoria and NSW alone.
Furthermore importantly, each extra day of lockdown results in more job losses and livelihood losses, as well as small business shutdown, as well as substantial physical and mental health consequences.
According to international experience, reaching a vaccination rate of >90% of the adult population will be the quickest way for us all to return to a more normal life, minimizing the risk of further business disruption, ending lockdowns, and eliminating the possibility of further State border closures.

Campaign Outcomes
The Million Dollar Vax competition, which drew over 2.7 million submissions in October, was proudly promoted by the Summer Foundation.
The goal was to raise vaccination rates across the country to relieve the load on our healthcare systems and lower the risk of infection among the most vulnerable members of our community, such as disabled persons.
The initiative targeted low-vaccination-rate areas.
Million Dollar Vax set records by receiving the most unique participation in any competition ever hosted in Australia in under four weeks.
In October, Australia witnessed a 9.8% increase in first-dose vaccinations. According to early estimates, Million Dollar Vax motivated 4% of Australians (800,000) to get their first vaccine.
