Sri Lanka beats UAE by 79 runs to get back on track and keep their Super 12 hopes alive. Pathum Nissanka was their best batsman. He stopped Karthik Meiyappan from getting a hat trick and helped Sri Lanka get to 152/8. During the powerplay, Dushmantha Chameera did most of the work with the ball. He took three wickets. The rest was done by Wanindu Hasaranga, who took three wickets. Sri Lanka moves to the third spot with two points and a win. UAE has lost and is now out.
UAE had a hard time scoring 153 in pursuit of their aim. In terms of destruction, Dushmantha Chameera was in charge with a score of 3/15. With UAE’s top batsmen gone, it was never going to be simple. In the powerplay, UAE managed just 23/4. With Wanindu Hasaranga coming into attack, UAE struggled further. The fielding errors and missed catches didn’t prevent Hasaranga from catching 3 of 8. United Arab Emirates were all out for 73, giving Sri Lanka a huge boost in net run rate.
CP Rizwan, captain of the United Arab Emirates, won the toss and choose to bowl first to start the game against SriLanka. Rizwan speculates that dew could be an issue under the spotlights on such a warm day in Geelong. Therefore, UAE is pursuing. Charith Assalanka has replaced Danushka Gunathilaka on the roster.
Earlier, after being put in, SriLanka posted 152/8 thanks in large part to Pathum Nissanka’s magnificent 74-run knock. However, Karthik Meiyappan stole the show by taking three wickets and tearing through the middle order for SriLanka. Sri Lanka had a good start, but they lost too many wickets too quickly in the final 10 overs. Sri Lanka’s score dropped from 84/1 after the first 10 overs to 68/7 in the final 10.
