Highlights of the match between Namibia and the Netherlands are here.
The Dutch won by 5 wickets thanks to an all-around performance by Bas de Leede in the last over. The Dutch were in difficulty when chasing a relatively low total of 122, as they faced a spirited Namibian side that dragged the game down to the wire. After this victory, Scott Edwards’ team is in first place in their group and in excellent position to advance to the Super 12 stage of the tournament. Even though they lost their Dutch courage, the Netherlands beat Namibia by five wickets on Tuesday at the T20 World Cup in Geelong, Australia. This meant they needed one more win to get to the Super 12 round. The Dutch were 92 for two with over six overs left, trying to beat a relatively low total of 121 for six. They lost three wickets for ten runs, and the game became a real nail-biter.
Bas de Leede (30 not out) was named man of the match after hitting fast-bowling all-rounder David Wiese over his head for four and hitting another two runs down the ground with three balls left to win. If the United Arab Emirates can beat Sri Lanka in the second match on Tuesday, the Netherlands will move on to the Super 12s because they won Group A by beating the UAE 2-1 in the first match on Sunday.
However, after Namibia’s sensational 55-run destruction of Sri Lanka at the same location on Sunday, this result was a huge letdown. Despite 43 from all-rounder Jan Frylinck, Namibia’s innings of 3-32 before the end of the powerplay was a disaster from which they never recovered.
