Cricket team of Australia has flown into Pakistan on their former trip of the country in almost a quarter of a century – and into safety measures that will wrap them all over their six-week stay. They previously played in Pakistan in 1998, leading a three-Test series 1-0 and blanking the hosts in the three one-day internationals. Australia will be participating in three Tests, three one-day internationals, and one Twenty20 match before leaving on April 6.
Head of state-level security
“The team will be given ‘head of state-level security’,” a representative for the interior ministry of Pakistan notifies the AFP news agency. “Such arrangements are only made for high-level foreign delegations, [and] the president and prime minister of Pakistan.” Roads will be barricaded when the Australians create the 15km (9-mile) travel, with their squad bus shadow through army helicopters. Snipers will be placed on buildings near the stadium, while around shops and offices have been planned to close on days of the match, the interior bureau said. Similar planning will be prepared for matches in Karachi and Lahore. The Australian team will be restricted to quarters for 24 hours after coming for COVID-19 tests, before extreme training to the lead of the first Test starting March 4.
