Uber Eats has made its name among the top best food delivery services in the world. The concept of getting restaurant-ready food delivered to your doorstep has made it an instant success among the youth.

Uber Eats Overview

Uber Eats food delivery service is a subsidiary of Uber, a ride-hailing service. It allows users to read reviews, order food from their favorite restaurants, and pay for meals. It is currently operational in more than 6000 cities in 45 countries. Uber Eats Australia has branches in 23 cities across the country. As of 2020, the company reported $4.80 billion in revenue.

Company’s History

Uber’s founders, Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick, launched the Uber Fresh food delivery service in August 2014 from Santa Monica. In 2015, the company’s applications for Android/IOS were launched. In 2016, the food delivery service extended to London and Paris.

Ordering Food Made Easy

The Uber Eats app offers seamless navigation and a user-friendly interface that ensures smooth order placement and delivery. Uber’s customers can directly sign into the food delivery app without any registration. However, new service users need to create an account. They can then search for their favorite restaurant by entering keywords and applying filters such as cuisine, price, Italian food, etc., on the search bar.

One of the best aspects of the food delivery app is that you can select an option of group order if you are ordering food for a house party. Your friends and family members can choose their desired orders from different restaurants and place them in a single cart delivered at a single location.

Schedule A Delivery

Using the app, you can schedule a delivery time. You can order your meals for the next day in advance. For immediate delivery, you can select deliver now option. Customers can also enter the Uber Eats promo code to get discounts on their orders.

The app charges a service fee for providing you with a delivery platform. The company used to charge a $4.99 delivery fee before 2018. Afterward, it offered a flexible delivery fee varying from $2 to $8 depending on the distance.

Some restaurants charge an additional delivery fee and might offer free deliveries on orders above a certain amount. In 2019, the food delivery company announced to reduction of its delivery fee from 35% to 30% on order value.

Chance To Earn Some Extra Bucks

An individual above 19 years can sign up to become an Uber Eats driver. Students can use their free time to earn money by delivering food on their self-owned bikes. The riders can also track how much money they will make before delivering a particular order.

The earnings are automatically transferred to the riders’ accounts. They can also cash out five times a week.

Services

Uber offers many services for businesses and restaurants.

  • Subscription Program

The company also offers a subscription program titled Eats Pass for $10. Regular customers can benefit from this program as it waives delivery fees on orders and gives a 5% discount on orders above $15.

  • Voucher Codes and Gift Cards

Companies can gift voucher codes, and gift cards to their employees and customers using the Uber Eats for Business feature. Whether buying work lunches or subsidizing rides for interviews, the food delivery company makes it easier for businesses to grow their customer base and awareness.

Gift cards offer complete control over how customers or employees use the credit. Voucher codes offer discounted meals and rides for employees or event attendees.

  • Awards Ceremony

Uber UK and Ireland also host Restaurant of the Year Awards annually. Recently, the restaurant of the year title was awarded to The Salad Project, a London-based eatery, along with a cash prize of £100,000 to help expand operations.

The ceremony received 26,000 entries from the UK and Ireland, of which one restaurant was declared the winner.

Supporting At-Risk Communities In Sri Lanka

Robin Hood Army and Uber Eats have joined forces to help the less privileged. The Sri Lankan chapter of the RHA and Uber Eats have come forward to help communities against the rising economic crisis. Using their resources, they will collect donations containing dry rations to be provided to the most affected Colombian families.

Allegations

In 2020, Uber’s food delivery service faced allegations from a group of New Yorkers and other food delivery services overcharging exorbitant fees.

They accused the food delivery giant of listing only those restaurants that agreed to charge the same prices for dine-in customers as for takeaway customers. The case is registered in the court, but no trial date has been set.

Driverless Deliveries

Uber Eats has recently signed a ten-year contract with Nuro, an independent vehicle start-up. The initial deliveries will be made by the company’s electric vehicles. These cars have been designed to carry packages and move along public roads instead of sidewalks. Nuro’s other prime partners are Domino’s and Walmart.
